On the FAS soil sample submission for topsoils and subsoils, it asks you to estimate what yield you would expect from the green manure crop. This figure is used to estimate the N contribution from the green manure. The submission form requests you to estimate it as low, average or high. Most growers do not know how to estimates this as everything is “relative”.

Cane Varieties Trends

On the FAS soil sample submission for topsoils and subsoils, it asks you to estimate what yield you would expect from the green manure crop. This figure is used to estimate the N contribution from the green manure. The submission form requests you to estimate it as low, average or high. Most growers do not know how to estimates this as everything is “relative”.

Below is a table to assist you in deciding on the description of your yield.

Crop Yield Yield
Sunn Hemp <4t/ha Low
1.5m 6t/ha Average
2m 9t/ha High
Velvet beans 3t/ha Low
6t/ha Average
10t/ha High
Soybean 3t/ha Low
6t/ha Average
8t/ha High

The estimated contribution of N is then subtracted from the required N for the crop to give you your N recommendation for the field. In the case of Soybeans, if the soybeans were harvested then the N contribution will be reduced by 60%.

Please note that the N contributions from legume green manures are restricted to crop immediately after the green manure crop and are not extended to subsequent crops.

Brief:

  • A subsidy of 50% will again be in place for all cane ripened by the 31st of March 2017. All invoices must be in by the 31st of May to qualify.

Easter Stop

Cane

We will be crushing for as long as possible into the Easter weekend. All cane delivered after midnight on Wednesday the 12th of April will receive an extra R300/t RV payment. This is on condition that allocations for the 10th, 11th and 12th of April have been met. Looking forward to your support and deliveries during this time.

Bark

Last bark will be on Tuesday he 11th at 22:00 and we will restart on Tuesday the 18th at 07:00.

Although there has been a drop in tonnage over the past weeks, we are still hopeful that we will reach 55’000t by the end of the season. It is very possible that we will be in a situation to accept extra bark after the Easter break and at this stage, if tonnage allows us, to continue running the extract factory until the end of May. So please send your bark!
